What is the Meal Plan?
You may have heard of the Disney Dining Plan. But what is this?
The Meal Plan is a "prepaid" meal plan at Walt Disney World restaurants. If you stay at one of the hotels in the Disney complex, you can request a meal plan. With it, you pay a fixed amount per day and earn "credits" to spend on different meals. You can still track your spending and how much is still available for the day on the restaurant receipt. So you do not run the risk of ending your meals unknowingly.
How it works?
You may be wondering how this Meal Plan works ... Actually, there are different options for the plan, from the simplest to the most complete. However, to better understand, we first need to talk about some common terms there.
There are different types of meals in restaurants:
Quick Service: They are fast food style meals, that is, you order at the counter, pay and eat.
Table Service: these are "traditional" meals. You sit down at the table, order the plate for the waiter, eat and only then pay. Meals can be buffet style, where you serve yourself and eat at ease, Family Style, where the food comes in portions at your table, and a la carte, in which you choose an option on the menu.
Signature: these are more "sophisticated" and expensive restaurants. To eat at one of these, you spend more credits. Also, it is quite difficult to get a place without an advance reservation.
Snack: they are "snacks". Here, they can be fruits, sweets, some accompaniments. Generally, the snacks have an identification on the menu.
Disney Mug: It is a special mug offered by the Meal Plan. It gives you the right to free refills of various beverages at the hotels in the Disney complex. But it only applies to hotels, and cannot be used in Disney parks.
Now that you know what meals are available at the Disney restaurants, let's go to the Dining Plans options.
Options
There are 3 options of plans, with different prices and types of meals:
Disney Quick Service Dining Plan
With this plan, you have the right to:
- Two full meals at Quick Service restaurants per day. Meals have a main dish and non-alcoholic drink or a full combo already offered by the restaurant;
- Two snacks (snacks, sweets, fruit etc.) per day;
- A Disney Mug for the trip.
The Disney Quick Service Dining Plan costs around $ 50 a day for adults and $ 20 a day for children.
Disney Standard Dining Plan
The Disney Standard Dining Plan costs approximately $ 70 a day for adults and $ 25 a day for children and offers:
- One Table Service meal per day, offering full buffet or a combo with main course, dessert and a non-alcoholic drink;
- One Quick Service meal per day, with main course and non-alcoholic drink or a complete combo already offered by the restaurant;

Disney Deluxe Dining Plan

- Three full meals ( Table or Quick ) per day, with full buffet or main course, dessert and non-alcoholic drink;
- Two snacks (snacks, sweets, fruit etc.) per day;
- A Disney Mug for the trip.
The Disney Deluxe Dining Plan costs approximately $ 107 per day for adults and $ 40 per day for children.
Note: Values are approximate and subject to change.
And how do I use my Meal Plan?
You can use your Meal Plan for your card or Magic Band. So, just choose from over 100 dining options available and enjoy. At the restaurant, simply present your card or Magic Band to the waiter or cashier before making the request so that he can see what meals you are entitled to. You will then receive a receipt with the balance available to spend. That way, you can keep track of how much you still have for future meals.
You can dine at any time during your stay until the total meal for each person in the group is complete.
Another important thing: you get your meals according to the number of days you bought, which does not mean you have to use your credits every day. For example, if you have 10 Quick Service meals, you can use 3 in one day and none in the other. Oh, and if you travel with family or friends, it's important to know that all the people who booked the hotel together need to have the same meal plan!
Important informations
- Gratuities are not included in the Meal Plan ;
- For the Meal Plan, children between the ages of 3 and 9 are considered children. From the age of 10, the adult plan is already necessary;
- Children will have to ask between the options of the children's menu;
- No meal plan applies for children under 3 years. If you travel with children under the age of 3, they can eat anything from adult dishes without paying. However, if you want to order a dish for her, the dish is charged separately;
- Credits are valid until the end of your stay at the Disney hotel. You can not save credits for use on a next trip or use them one day after you check out. However, you can use all your credits until 11:59 pm on the day of check out at the hotel, even if you check out at noon, for example;
- Plans should be the same for all people with reservations together. Also, you also can not make a plan for a few days of your trip. You need to make the plan for every day of your stay at the hotel;
There are over 100 Disney restaurants within the Dining Plans, but not all restaurants are within the Plans. It is good to check in advance which restaurants are within the Plans.
